1 Minute mug cake is the ideal single-serve dessert—quick, simple, and perfect for gifting during the holidays.

When my daughter moved away to college, I wanted an easy treat she could prepare in a dorm microwave. This mug cake mix is exactly that: assemble the dry mix once, portion it for convenience, and each cake cooks in just one minute.

I measured single portions into small baggies and drew a line to show how much water to add. She could shake the bag to mix, pour into a mug, microwave for a minute, and have a fresh dessert—no fuss.

You can easily personalize the mix by folding in candy pieces. I made some with chocolate chips and others with bits of peppermint bark; chopped candy bars work well too. Layering mix and candies in jars also makes a charming homemade gift.

The cake can stick to the mug if it’s not greased. Either spray the mug or line it with a coffee filter to prevent sticking if you prefer to plate the cake instead of eating from the mug.

The first photo shows a cake made in a sprayed mug; the next shows one made using a coffee filter. Both are quick and satisfying.
Get creative: vary the candies, portion the mix into jars or baggies, and give as delightful homemade gifts during the holidays.
