I love hibachi shrimp for meal prep. It’s a quick, flavorful dish that cooks in about 15 minutes and rivals your favorite Japanese steakhouse. If you enjoy shrimp, try other easy options like air fryer jerk shrimp tacos or a shrimp enchilada bowl.

What is Hibachi Shrimp
Hibachi refers to a Japanese cooking style that uses a hot metal plate to sear meat, vegetables and seafood over high heat. This method creates a distinct sear and fast cooking time that’s popular at many Japanese restaurants.
For this recipe, shrimp are seared in sesame oil and finished with a simple hibachi-style sauce made from oyster sauce, teriyaki sauce and low-sodium soy sauce. A touch of black pepper, garlic and grated ginger rounds out the flavor.
Why Shrimp Hibachi for Meal Prep
Meal prep means preparing meals ahead of time so you aren’t left wondering “what’s for dinner?” Shrimp is ideal for meal prep because it cooks quickly and pairs well with many sides. Cooking a fast main like hibachi shrimp lets you move on to other dishes while saving time during the week.

What Ingredients Are Needed
I keep ingredient lists simple so everything is easy to find at a regular grocery store and you can adapt the recipe to your taste.
Main ingredients for this hibachi-style shrimp:
- Raw shrimp (peeled and deveined)
- Hibachi-style vegetables — you can use pre-sliced mixed vegetables to save time
- White rice (jasmine is my preference)
How to Make Hibachi Shrimp
You’ll need a large skillet that can comfortably hold the shrimp and vegetables. Heat the skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. While the oil warms, season the shrimp with black pepper, garlic powder and salt.
When the pan is hot, arrange the shrimp in a single layer and pan-fry about 2–3 minutes per side. Avoid crowding the pan; cook in batches if necessary. Return all cooked shrimp to the skillet and pour in the sauce, stirring to coat evenly.
Add the vegetables and stir-fry 3–5 minutes, until they are tender-crisp.
How to Top Shrimp Dinner
Toppings add texture and brightness. I like sesame seeds and Korean red pepper flakes for heat, but green onions, parsley or grated ginger also work well. A squeeze of lemon or lime brightens the dish. If you prefer a dip, serve with a creamy yum yum sauce.
How to Serve Hibachi Shrimp Meal Prep
This copycat hibachi shrimp pairs well with different sides depending on your goals:
- Low carb — serve with just the hibachi vegetables
- Rice — jasmine, brown rice or fried rice
- Noodles — hibachi-style noodles are another great option
No matter how you serve it, this dish is quick to make and often becomes a family favorite.
